    Smith and Rodger

Having just had new windows fitted (triple glazed, argon filled, carbon fibre infills) I decided to finish the wood trims off with hard wax oil. I booked a day off work to do it and discovered, the day before that I'd only got the dregs of a tin left - duuuuh  An on-line order to Smith...

    A "thankyou" session

Having just finished the latest 5 week stint of radiotherapy (50 ferry crossings, 2,250 miles driving and 150 bursts of gamma to the head - beats caffeine for starting the day off) my thoughts turned to the "thankyou" for the girls who had helped to bolt me down, align the machine etc. every...

    Yew pen

I had a small piece of English yew offcut, with a wild grain, so I thought I'd try and do something with it. Click on thumbnail to enlarge. Not a shape of pen I, personally, like. But done to bring out the grain. Finish is none, just sanded in 14 stages to 12000, so not practical either. But...

    Off chance transport help

SWIMBO has bought a, for her, Tool(Toy). So now she owns another inverted phase contrast microscope, in Harlow, Essex (this is good news, no questions about the pile of timber that's sitting in next door's wash-house :D ). They want £250 to pack and courier. A microscope of this type can be...

    Turners Toolbox.

I've just received my first order from this company. Due to a foul up in the GPO it took over 2 weeks to arrive. In spite of me telling them that I was in no hurry for the order they added a pack of pen kits FOC. A small thing but very good customer relations.

    Air dried timber

Shamelessly copied from the dark side, and probably of common knowledge to many of you, but I found this very interesting reading. http://www.chilternsaonb.org/downloads/ ... Timber.pdf

    Opinions on lathe please

I'm thinking of getting a whirly round thing, in the first instance I want to turn table legs, but am well aware of the size of the slope. So my thoughts are budget limited but I feel I need a bed of at least 36", variable speed (without b£"&*(&$g about with pulleys and belts), industry normal...
