    Truss Joints

A bump on the last three questions posed if you are still around Dibs-H. I am about to embark on a big king post truss to replace an existing more primative truss in a barn conversion and have found your thread really helpful so thanks. I have more questions if youre out there ! Kind regards, LB.

When to double up trimming and trimmer joists?

Not sure if this helps but I am converting a barn at the moment and putting in a new first floor. Span is 4.3 metres and joists 450 centres. I am trimming an area of about 2metres to allow for a staircase, and the area within the smaller trimmed floorspace will house a bathroom. My structural...

    Cabinet Lighting Advice

I made something similar recently and wanted to illuminate each shelf quite subtley and with a bit of dimmer control. I bought two 5 metre reels of led tape from ebay. (Just do a search for led tape). you can get dimmers and plugs etc from the same source. I rebated the shelf at the back to hide...

    Cupboard Latches?

Sorry for delayed response, currently on holiday! Magnets can be located where you like as you fix by drilling a hole and setting them in yourself. The company I bought from recommended I offset the face frame magnet by 2mm from the one set in the top of the door, presumably to ensure the door...

    Cupboard Latches?

I had a similar dilemma recently when making a shaker style kitchen for a customer who wanted butt hinges but no noise when the doors shut. After a bit of research online I found some really cool rare earth magnets which were perfect for the job. You set them into the top or bottom rail of the...

Running MDF doors the easy way

I saw the original thread from Doctor re this method and use it all the time. It is superb and I can make a door in a couple of minutes. Made 12 of varying sizes yesterday for a kitchen I am making at the moment. I usually use 25mm mrmdf for stiles and rails, and use 9mm mdf for the panel. I...

Remove sanding pad from Metabo 450

I swapped my pad a week ago. Similar problem, very tight. Its anticlockwise. I rested the sander on its side of the bench so the disc wouldnt spin around as I turned the key in the bolt in the middle of the pad anticlockwise. You dont think it will budge then suddenly it does. Voila !

    Dowelling jigs

I would second the comments re the joint genie. It is a high quality precision tool and comes in very handy. I have a good quality biscuit jointer, but sometimes a dowell can be better. Joint genie is not cheap, but it paid for itself on its first use.

    Inset hinge question

I have used the following from Hafele for similar work. www.bkservicesonline.co.uk will sell them. Put the code 316.05.615 into the search box. They open nearly 180 degrees, lie in doors require the 12 crank version. They also do a 0 crank version for lie on doors. Very east to fit and...

    Another Bookcase Puzzler...

Brad, I made a very similar unit for a client recently and put it all together with 10 mm dowells and a "joint Genie". I assembled it fully in the workshop but did not glue all the dowels so I could take it apart in manageable sections and then transport it. When on site I glued the sections...

Wood choice for butchers block trolley

Ive got a tip for you with this job which you may like. You can buy a smallish piece of hardwood worktop eg beech, the type that is made up of loads of glued up staves, 40mm staves look good. Slice equal strips off the worktop, cutting at right angles across the staves. The width of the slices...

Ikea style storage unit( new pics added)

Hi John, Coincidentally having just read about your project I was approached to make a very similar unit, albeit with different sized storage spaces. I was wondering how to make the joints as my usual method of biscuits and screws wont work as they need to be invisible. Would you recommend the...

Axminster Rojek KP310A or Record C26 PLUS

Hi, I have the Rojek 315s table saw which comes with sliding carriage and scoring blade. I have no regrets buying it at all. It is very robust, solid and accurate. Only criticism being the poor assembley instructions but I got there after a couple of calls to Axminster and Rojek UK. I would buy...

Door Hinge Right Or Wrong Way ?

I was taught three on the frame, strength on that side being more appropriate. Didnt question the logic at the time.

How do I keep my router running when attached to my table?

Fonzi, I have the Bosch GOF 1300CE and it works fine under the table without the need for tapes etc. I take it you have a trigger and a small button on one of the routers grips. With mine I just depress the trigger and lock it on with the button, then away it goes hands free. Hope that helps.

    Cabinet making courses......??

Jim, The old london College of Furniture Making is in the Commercial Road. I looked into cabinet making course there a few years ago, which I did not take up due to a job coming up, but it had a very good reputation. Its now called London Metropolitan university and looking at their website it...
