What Lathe to buy for £2200-00

It all depends on what you want the lathe to do, as there are good lathes out the that do a great job for a lot less. The most expensive lathe out there, will not make a bowl or vase better, thats all down to the skill of the operator. Cheers Pete

    How do you start........

That for me is the only way, as some paper designs don't look just right. The texture and any faults in the wood, don't understand the drawing and sometimes fight against you. So for me the way I do it is mount the wood with a mental view of roughly how you want it, then just go for it and...

Coming into turning forum and with a question.

Hi devonwoody, If you are going to use the lathe to drill pen blanks, then don't get a Morse taper mandrel but get a strait shaft. This is because it makes life easier as you do not have to keep taking the chuck off. I only ever use 3/4 inch roughing out gouge, from beginning to end. Hey nice...

    Elm Burl 20 x 9 ½ x 3 ½ inches

Hi Dick, None taken mate, the underside is not rough in any part and has had approx 30 coats of lacquer, so dust is not a problem. But you are 100 % right arty, as that is exactly what the client wanted. Cheers Pete

    Elm Burl 20 x 9 ½ x 3 ½ inches

Elm Burl 20 x 9 ½ x 3 ½ inches Well here is my latest turning project, an Elm Burl. This has taken a lot of thought on the best shape, due to irregular shape. So this became a challenge not to make firewood, and this is the result. Whenever doing a winged bowl always make sure. 1 The lathe...
