    Nidd Valley timber yard?

A mate of mine used to use them quite a lot to source Sycamore for smaller projects like chopping boards and treen. He recommended them to me but I've never called myself- he says they're very helpful and buying just a single 6ft board is no problem at all. Not sure about other species but I...

    Sycamore tv cabinet

Heyup Mattty, that's one beautiful piece of furniture from where I'm standing. I share your client's philosophy on locally sourced materials and working with defects rather than wastefully trying to irradicate every last knot or even bark inclusion. When I make stuff for people I find the local...

Large horse chestnut tree being felled

I'm with your friend on this one; unless you've got loads of room to store converted timber, Conker would be extremely low down on my list of timbers to take up precious storage space. As has already been stated, turners may get something out of the figured lumps. Cheers John

    Does anyone know......

NUM you mean? If so, I worked underground for 12 years before they levelled our pit. I still have my union card and as far as I know am a life member. I have been a Fireman for 16 years: it seems there are a few of us on here, which is something I was unaware of. Cheers, John

    Taming Turnings in 2010

That's a nice piece of work to kick off 2010 with Chas. I really like the form and of course the finish is immaculate. I reckon you're spot on with Field Maple, I turned some just like it not so long ago. Keep 'em coming and best regards to you, John

Pen - what wood? ....a very small competition....

Hi Chris, I don't think I merit a prize and thus putting you out of pocket. After all it took me 3 guesses and I have a nut bowl infront of me that I carved out of the very same stuff a few months ago! Besides I don't turn pens and would only end up giving them away at my turning...
