To build or not to build.....

Thanks for the replies martin and col. I'm going to have a go at the plans I've got (I think that mikiono's one might be a bit too much for me! ) I would do a build thread but I'm not overly sure there is much interest.

To build or not to build.....

Hi Guys, I do watch this forum with great interest and do own a very old demel which has very limited use, when my bandsaw is just not capable of fine work! I see the same old question being asked time and time again... "Which scroll saw should I buy... I want the very best and I only have...

    Dovetail template

Lovely little tool! I've been looking at david Barron's guide for a little while but I'm not so keen since he's gone to ally. I know they are probably more accurate but there is nothing like wooden tools! I reckon you could sell them! Put me down for one if you consider it! ;-) Regards John

Hi tosey, Thanks for the plans of your mini. Thought I'd put some WIP pictures up. My little girl is going to love playing with this! She is not really a girly girl! Likes her cars and trucks! I only have an old demel scroll saw so the thicker parts I've done on my band saw. Hope that's not a...

    Bandsaw boxes

Hi Great boxes, you make my efforts look very average! They are wonderfully addictive! Can I ask what bandsaw with what blade do you use? I could never cut that tight radii on mine but I'm using 1/4 blade. I have been looking at the carter blade stabilizers but I'm not sure it's completely...

How to remove dusk nibbs from the latest box?

Hi, I've used finishing oil. I tried the 0000 wool on the pervious coat which de nibbed it but also completely removed the shine. I'm thinking the mop system that CHJ said about might be good. What might I use as polishing compound? Regards John

    My second band saw box

Hi Waka, This is the box in question (Still needs a lot of sanding!) I think the grain is quite nice. I've done a little test with some button polish (that's shellac, right?) and some finishing oil Button on the left finishing oil on the right. The more I look into French polishing...

    My second band saw box

Hi Alex, thanks very much. I feel my woodwork has a long way to go yet! I'm using a Elektra Beckum BAS 316G I bought it second hand and I've been very pleased with it. I'm not sure they are made now but metabo do a newer model now but I'm not sure how good it is. If you are feeling really brave...

    My second band saw box

Hi waka, Pretty sure it was 4 coats using the 0000 wool between the coats. The trouble with finishing is the workshop is not the best place because of the dusk and the missus is never too pleased when it's done in the house. Time to build a finishing shop! Yea, right!! I'm finishing another...

    Finish for tulipwood.

Hi folks, Any ideas on finishing a bandsaw box made from tulipwood/popular? I used it on another project and finished it with finishing oil but the results weren't great. I thought about a blond shellac?? (I'm guessing you would wax after that?) Any help greatly received. Regards

    Finishing advice for model/toy boat

Hi Folks, This is a little model boat which I have built from a plan. The keel is weighted so in theory..... it should float!! I've put it together with D4 glue. Please don't be too harsh on the model itself I'm new(ish) to wood work. My question is what would you advise for a finish? I...
