Screws or bolts for small climbing frame?

Many thanks for all the replies. Sounds like I'm best dropping the idea if 50x50 isn't going to be strong enough. I will have to think of another use for it.... off to get my thinking cap on!

Screws or bolts for small climbing frame?

Hi all I've got a load of 50mmx50mm treated timber and I'd like to turn it into a little raised 'house' with some steps for my 4 and 7 year old. Something the rectangular part of the image below, but smaller with dimensions about h=1600mm w=800mm d=800mm. Minus the cross beam and swings /...

    Blade for Bosch Mitre Saw

Thanks both. My problem is that I've never owned or even used a mitre saw before, so I have nothing to compare with. The blade seems ok, and the end grain is certainly left very 'smooth', compared with sawing by hand. But I do get a little bit of tearing on softwood, and I don't know if a...

    Blade for Bosch Mitre Saw

Hi All Jut bought myself a Bosch GCM SJL mitre saw. Just wondering if it's worth putting a better blade on it than the one it came with, and if so, can anyone recommend a good 216mm blade? Thanks :)

    Metabo HC260 Changing Blades

After changing my blades, I had some snipe issues, since when I have spent hours and hours fiddling with my Metabo HC260 trying to get the blades aligned. I've watched every video available - including Peter Parfitt's. But they have different models. Has anyone else got the same model, who...

    Thicknesser Questions

Thanks very much for the replies. I got the technique for using the wood travel to determine the height of the blade from that Peter Parfitt video - (I really like his videos actually.) I think I just set mine too high. It was such a b**ger trying to get the blade and insert to stay together...

    Thicknesser Questions

I changed the blades for the first time on my Metabo 260C thicknesser this week. Since then, I've started getting a couple of inches of snipe on the leading and trailing edges which I never had before. Would this be caused by incorrect setting of the blade height? I carefully set the height...

    Routing a housing..

Hi Andy - I don't get about the climb cut. If you rout the workpiece right to left...then turn it round and rout it right to left again...wouldn't that always be ok?

    Routing a housing..

Many thanks for all the replies. Glad I didn't try a 12mm bit - a mill either side doesn't sound much, but it does make it sloppy. In the end I decided to invest in a 10mm straight cutter today, which made it a lot easier to go over the housing I'd already cut. Used the tape method and...

    Routing a housing..

Sorry for the confusion MMUK - I meant I am routing the width of the housing 10mm, not the depth (which is 3mm all round) The problem I have is the 10mm housing is such a tight fit for the board going into it..that there is no 'give' and I'm having trouble putting it all together... I'm...

    Routing a housing..

If I want to rout a housing for something which is 10mm thick, then how wide should I make the housing? 10mm? Or should I give it clearance, and if so, how much would be advisable? Reason for asking, I'm making a simple hinged blackboard, which is basically a wooden frame around a piece of 10mm...

question for those who sell work/do any freelance jobs

Can I make a suggestion? How about, next time you get asked for a quote, you add £15 to the quote, and if they ask you to do the work, you use it to buy insurance online the night before you start? If oyu don't get any work after that, just cancel your insurance... would that work?

Blackboard Paint vs. Matt Black Paint

Is there any actual difference between blackboard paint and just normal matt black paint? I've already got plenty of matt black paint , so I don't want to fork out on a tin of blackboard paint and find I just have another tin of black paint....

18V Brushless Impact Driver - Dewalt or Makita?

6-2 to Makita. That's it. I've addressed my santa list and I'm licking the envelope... Many thanks for all the replies.

18V Brushless Impact Driver - Dewalt or Makita?

    Hmm...well that's me stumped. 50-50! Don't the makita batteries have a guarantee?

18V Brushless Impact Driver - Dewalt or Makita?

I'm in the market for an impact driver. Budget up to £200 including driver + battery + charger. I like the sound of brushless, and I am now narrowed down to a DeWalt, or Makita...

    Wet wood?

I genuinely thought you'd put the wrong pics up when I first looked at them. What is it for? It almost looks like a set for film or something...

    Wet wood?

Haha. You are right. I'm being very girly. The sad truth is, I've just cleaned out the workshop, put down new hardboard down everywhere for a nice clean sweepable surface, and I wanted my new timber rack to look all new and pretty instead of cruddy old treated wood! Maybe I should just paint it...
