Oh to be on the lathe and NOT in A&E for a change :-)

Ah, shoulder problems affect woodturners too! As a long term rock climber and mountaineer, I too have a rotor cuff injury (chronic -19 months now) caused by a sudden drop onto one out stretched arm ... but I stayed in place! Should have let go. Now into frozen shoulder mode. Although I still...

    Any advice?

So I did a real nice natural edge ash bowl this afternoon. All going well despite a load of cracks in one side of the bowl. Fairly even thickness , about 6-8mm, and then the damn tool rest decided to slip and catch the edge on one side.Large lump of natural edge now out of place! So I...

    Mulberry and ash

The mulberry was about 8 inches across the diagonal and maybe 3 inches deep. Waxed and buffed. The ash crotch piece is about the same along the length and inch and a half deep. Oiled. Thanks for the nice comments folks!

    Hopefully last turnings

    Spinning Wheel

Having recently acquired a spinning wheel made by my father-in-law I thought I would share some pictures of it. He made it some years ago on his trusty ML8 (which he passed on to me when his hands got too shaky). A real exercise in copy turning! Not sure I would have the patience. He also made...

First go at off centre stuff

There are lots of off centre turning videos on Youtube but if you want to see an expert at work, watch Antti Sorvamaa (5min 25). I often quote this video as an exercise in how to use the ring tool for hollowing. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IW7lG_z2q1U Had a go at this - not so bad, though...

First go at off centre stuff

What a shame I haven't got another bit of wood like it! With tomorrow's forecast I suspect I may spend some time shedward :D

First go at off centre stuff

Candle stick turned off centre at either end. Funny bit of wood - hard as hell, mostly dust rather than clean shavings, but smelt like pine!

    Silver birch fun

Natural edged "vessel" for want of a better word, from semi wet / semi dry (take your pick) log of silver birch. No finish on it. Wish I had left it (or just waxed it) as I put Danish oil on it , which darkened it more than I would have liked, but hey ho!
