Candle stick turned off centre at either end.
Funny bit of wood - hard as hell, mostly dust rather than clean shavings, but smelt like pine!

Now the real challenge will be making its duplicate - candlesticks come in pairs :)

Nice job - I enjoy off centre work - can get some really unusual shapes. Need to record every move so that you can replicate - I never manage to do that !!

What a shame I haven't got another bit of wood like it!
With tomorrow's forecast I suspect I may spend some time shedward :D

Very nice Spadger.

How did you go about creating that shape on the lathe? Do you have a specific chuck or plate?

There are lots of off centre turning videos on Youtube but if you want to see an expert at work, watch Antti Sorvamaa (5min 25). I often quote this video as an exercise in how to use the ring tool for hollowing.

The same goblet (but later video) from another angle (2min 21)

I had some wood like that - and it was later identified to be juniper. Very hard and close grained, colour like a faded kind of yew, and a very strong smell of pine when I was turning it.

Had a go at this - not so bad, though it took me about 10 times as long ( or was it 20, 30 …?) and it didn't turn out quite the same. Certainly didn't fancy going in with the skew on the off centre bits! Thanks for the link though, will try that again.
