I would also go for the Olive Oil to be 100% safe

Check the paint tin to see if white spirits is suitable for thinning/brush cleaning you may need something stronger

Have you considered machine sanding the top completely, you could use a hand held belt sander or even better take the top to a local cabinet maker and have it sanded on a table sander

Get some Pre-Cat wood primer, treat the edges only, when dry sand well if the edges still look porous coat again and sand, finally coat the whole board and sand apply a finish of your choice. This primer is intended for spraying by gun but with care it can be brushed on also. Good luck

I agree, you will find it hard to beat Hafele for quality

Lovely box and great choice of wood

Pin the centre of the panels top and bottom this allows movement

Make sure the wood is dry, I agree 6% check with moisture meter. Also make sure that glue from the joints is not catching the corners of the panels

The star dresser is good if the stone is very clogged
