Hi Philo, just spent the afternoon repairing a couple of Parkinson 14 quick release vices and now I understand what you were up to when you did this. Beautifully simple and more easily repeatable than the clock type spring set up.
I had one broken spring which I brazed back together and...
Why not take the insert out and extend the slot? Provided its clearing everything else underneath the surface that should do it. As said earlier though, the saw probably isn't designed for that size of blade and that may not be helping with the tripping problem. Try it with a ten inch blade if...
I bought a thousand Lamello biscuits from Amazon for £17.50 posted, took a week or so to arrive but only two or three broken ones in the whole pack.

It would probably help if you had the feather boards you intend using before cutting slots, just to make sure everything is going to work fine. I've got a cast top Fox router table which is a brilliant bit of kit but with the feather boards I have there's a dead spot where they won't come far...

Put the broken one in the cupboard with all the other stuff that's too good to throw out, then throw it out in a couple of years when you find it again.
That's what we do.

That looks really smart but if it's going to be a practical conversion you're losing valuable worktop space by doing that. I've done a couple and every bit of flat surface is useful when you're cooking, cleaning up etc.
Or so the staff tell me.
