    Annoying or what?

Just purchased a new Sony TV. The instruction manual is in 19 languages and all get just 14 pages each. Of the 266 page book, half the English section is too technical to understand. A new electric tooth brush instructions printed on cheap re-cycled paper an A3 sheet then folded by an origami...

How to get a flat bottom?

Hi, An easy way out would be to flatten any-which-way. Then glue on a strip of baize or felt. (it would also protect the bottom edge of the iPhone) If you were making several as gifts or to sell, then various selection of colour felts could be applied. Cheers John

    Sticky resin

Hi If I tried to distract the boss with extreme flattery, she would immediately know something needed investigating. John

    Restoring old 'oak' name plaque

Hi Paul Sanding the surface may turn out very patchy, especially where the weather has got in the cracks. Why not try a wire brush (try on the back first) to enhace the grain texture and its age. Then apply a not too shiny finish, perhaps a clear Cuprinol? Cheers John

    Perhaps a Monday smile

The cicus big top had come to town. A novice nun had always wanted to go to the circus and persuaded the mother superior to let her go to the matinee performance. Unfortunately it had been raining heavily and a big muddy puddle was right at the entrance to the tent. The clowns were helping...

Wood working projects for children to do

Hi Daughter of DiscoStu, A great piece of woodwork - nicely finished and a great credit to you. Tell your dad that he could have advised you on a neater door, tell him off. Whats next? You could also join the forum with such good work to show, and perhaps be the youngest member. John

Wood working projects for children to do

Hi, Four relatively simple projects: Solitaire board with indentations with a countersink bit, (usualy round board but a square one would be easier). Noughts and crosses game. A marble maze, the route achieved by tilting the board. A puzzle cube made from 27 one inch cubes of wood. All the...

    MINIATURE FRAME CLAMP

Hi All, These small frame clamps were bought 25 years ago, and I would like another set of four. They consist of a white nylon strap, half round in section. It has a half thread along its length and is about 14" long. A threaded turn button and two 'spacing' thingies. They will cramp small...

    STANLEY 4 1/2

Hi All, Thank you all for your replies. and ideas. Thank you Bedrock for your specific idea and possible research. Thank you Woodbrains, looking at the problem it was the surprising number of turns that foxed me. I can actualy make the final adjustment by tilting the plane on its side and using...

    STANLEY 4 1/2

Hi The problem is arthritis in the finger joints that make it difficult and painful to turn the adjustment wheel. I used to be able to turn the wheel with one finger. Looking at the problem I was very surprised that the wheel needed three complete turns which seemed excessive. Cheers John

    STANLEY 4 1/2

Hi All Having used my trusty Stanley 4 1/2 smoothing plane for nigh on 50 years I have just realised how much slack there is on the knurled brass adjusting screw. If I wish to raise the blade a smidgen there are 3 anti-clockwise turns before the adjustment "bites" followed by 3 clockwise turns...

    Lancing

Hello KB We have lived 3 mile from Lancing for 50 years. FOR: Close to the Southdown national park, with wonderful downland scenery, long distance bridle ways, and numerous public footpaths. The coast/sea is OK, pebble beaches but not picturesque. Sailing, windsurfing, fishing etc. A large and...

    Marking dark wood for dovetails.

Hi Another simple "chalk" method is to rub the surface of dark woods with a stick of blackboard chalk, brush off the excess, and scribe in the usual way. The scribe lines will show dark against light, (especially on end grain) Cheers John
