As said in an earlier reply, its the hot steam that causes damage, any good varnish should do the job

Careful, if you pad out the base units, make sure your worktop is wide enough, have you thought about building 1 wall out 30mm to make the room the correct size? Walls are never square in my expeience so I would leave the walls alone and place a 15mm infil between the base and wall units

I carry this setup in my van for cutting large panels, (and smaller ones) with my track saw , it sits on top of 2 tressels it knocks down small. Its approx 1m wide and 1.8m long

The best thing i ever did to my transit was to raise the floor and build in 150mm deep drawer, 2 at the back and 2 more for the side door, access to all my fittings and occasional used tools without loosing floor space. Power tool rack access thru side door, i park tight to a fence at night :-)...
