Favourite tool broken and no longer made :(

Wow! I'd be all over it if it weren't collection only and I had any idea where Westmeath was.

Favourite tool broken and no longer made :(

Oooops! A bit of confusion I seem to have caused. The tool I have is a MacAllister belt sander but it is so compact they call it a "palm" belt sander. Easily used by one hand.

Favourite tool broken and no longer made :(

Really is annoying. A couple of years ago I was wandering around B&Q and saw something on their clearance table. It was a MacAllister Palm Belt Sander and I think I got it for like £15. It's a really useful piece of kit - a decent-sized (not miniature like Proxxon) belt sander that can be...

    Buying wood on line

I think I have a valid complaint but maybe some people in here have a view. Had a request from a neighbour to make a couple of floating shelves from white beech. Each shelf to be 800 mm long X 160 mm deep X 25 mm thick (thickness necessary to match some existing shadow boxes on the wall and...

    The OxoBox

The inspiration actually came from the typical Tudor/Elizabethan timber frame construction.

    The OxoBox

I wasn't that sure about it myself but I was doing it for free with scraps so that's what he gets.

    The OxoBox

Friend of mine commissioned a storage box for Oxo cubes. (his wife's idea - not mine!) Had to be able to store 36 each of three different kinds of cube. So this is what he got. Panels are maple, "beams" are black walnut, lid is zebrano. I have no doubt it is the only one in existence! :P

    A strange sense of satisfaction

Or maybe it's a sense of "arrival" or "accomplishment"? Wifey asked me to make something not too complicated for the home and I was able to make it without any outside sourcing. I had the timber, the hardware, the tools necessary to size the timber, the finishing materials . . . everything was...

Two steps forward, three steps back today!!!!

There are woodworkers who haunt timber yards just looking for spalted wood! Couldn't you turn it into a feature? :)

    Help please.

Welcome to the Group! As far as the glue line is concerned, do you mean that it is "raised" so that it can be felt or that it is "visible" in contrast to the wood? Or both? Hand sanding down to as high as 600 grit is the answer to the first problem. The second problem is one more of trial...

Cutting Dados on a TS WITHOUT a Dado Head ?

Surely any man capable of doing such fine work can easily make a little box to hold it?

    Finally made a ZCI

Ah! How about I give it several coats of poly to seal it? Or make another one with another type of wood? Maybe I'll just keep the original equipment in there and only pop in the ZCI when it's called for.

    Finally made a ZCI

Just spent a happy hour making a zero clearance insert for my TS. Made me wonder: why don't TS mfgrs include these with their units or at least offer them as an optional extra? (Such a handy little thing, as long as you remember to replace it with the original insert BEFORE tilting the blade...

Cutting Dados on a TS WITHOUT a Dado Head ?

And if it follows the usual pattern (like the recent Joint Genie) it will cost about £60 when sold here.
