I'm new to the forum and the world of woodworking per se so seeking advice, if I may?
I'm keen to get a couple of 'different' 3kg dumbbells lathed up for my wife as a 'thank you!'
I recently broke my neck in a cycling accident and am now tetraplegic. She's been a rock through our scariest time and, as she enjoys her home fitness, I thought a simple set of beautifully made dumbbells might be just the ticket.
I was thinking a walnut and chrome combo but very open to ideas, even on unusual shapes.
Can anyone help? Much appreciated.

That sounds like a lovely idea. Black walnut may look particularly striking with the greater contrast between dark wood and bright metal.

Something like these?

I think the lack of response could be down to the fact that Whilst there are one or two pro turners here (and quite a few enthusiastic amateurs ) I'm not sure that any of them would be able to accommodate wood and metal (walnut and chrome) as most tend to work with only the one material. Theres no harm in asking though. :)

Thanks all.

@Nev, the2nd link is perfect. Exactly what I had in my mind's eye!

Actually I'm quite keen to work with an enthusiastic talented amateur as I reckon they'd love the project as much as I will.

Where exactly should I post it do you think?

If this isn't sorted yet, I could do the turning to make something like Nev's second link. I'd need a wood person to advise on a source of walnut though. Email me if you're interested Steven.
Rob.
