Airshield Pro - simple help please

I have lost/buried the charger for my airshield pro. I have several of chargers that are the same spec (voltage/power etc) but I can't find anywhere the polarity (ie is the centre pos/neg?). It is about 3 years old (and has held its charge so well I didn't miss the charger!). Martin

    Metabo Dst Extractor Impeller

My dust extractor (Metabo SPA 1702 W 230) went bang. I have dismantled it fine and an impeller blade has broken as I guessed. I have removed the screw from the end of the shaft, but haven't managed to pull the impeller from the shaft yet - reluctant to use too much force in case there is a trick...

    Sanding Strips

Hmmmm my "I put them in a pile at the end of my bench so that I can knock them on the floor later" doesn't seem so organised now!! I love the simple idea of the notched piece of wood with magnets. Thanks (and thanks ofr the question that prompted the sharing of this neat idea). Martin

    Tooth Fairy Bell

Enchanting! I love the wood - it has a fairy-like quality.

    what lathe to buy

I have a small Jet lathe and the motor heats up pretty quickly, but doesn't seem to get hotter as it runs for several minutes - I think they just run at quite a high temperature.

Decided which new lathe. Now what ?

I got a deal on the basic axminster chuck when I bought my late from them. Well worth phoning and asking.

    tailstock out by 1.8mm

I use an insert and in all honesty simply forget it is there. Can't imagine what problems there could be really.

    Confused newbie

I have the same lathe and have had great fun with it. Enjoy and keep asking questions! Martin

    Jet JML-1014 or AXI AH-1215vs

I bought the 1014 (package with chuck etc) from axminster last Christmas as my first lathe. I am no expert, but I can honestly say I have had no regrets at all. I wondered about the variable speed issue, but can change the speed in about 20 seconds anyway (and it probably makes me think a bit...

DRAPER 07989 WTL330 VARIABLE SPEED MINI WOOD LATE

I opted for the Jet 1014 from Axminster (plus chuck etc)as well. Not in any way an experienced turner, but I have certainly not been disappointed with either the lathe/chuck etc or the service (I have since bought various other things from them, and I love their attitude - you get to talk to...

    Simple elegance

Very interesting discussion, inspired by a lovely piece. A word I use in a lot in my professional life (not as much fun as producing shavings though) is "affordance". Essentially this means the property of suggesting use. I love the shape of this piece, and before I read any of the text I had...

    newbies second turning

Satisfying isn't it!! Nice dish. I found it useful to practice lots of making shavings from cheap (free) offcuts as well (but must admit I couldn't resist knocking out a few bowls from nice bits too). Martin

Axminster mini lathe - hobby vs. trade

The point is that any lathe will have limitations. Personally as a new turner I decided that I probably wanted to master techniques etc before I tried scary stuff with huge lumps of wood. If I want to move on to something bigger it will be big, heavy and have enough grunt to turn the wood...

Axminster mini lathe - hobby vs. trade

Hi Aldo I bought the Jet 1014 in January as a first lathe. My choice was influenced by the fact that, at the time it came with a free chuck that brought the cost down to similar to the Axminster (I bought it from them). I have been very pleased with it and not found any negatives so far. Hope...

    mini lathe?

I bought a Jet JML-1014 as my first lathe a few months ago and cannot fault it. It costs a bit more than your budget I think, but when I bought it there was a great deal on at Axminster.

    First Lathe

Personally I love the clean, simple effect of this sort of bowl. The wood says it all, for me. Also the bit of weight when you handle it! First of many I hope. Martin (now an "experienced" turner of 3 months! I do agree that the challenges were a good way of learning techniques that I might...

Announcement. Advance Apologies. A new member!

Hi Brian. Likewise, a new turner who has gained a great deal from the forum. Have a look at the challenges as well - they have made me try things I thought was beyond me! Just a bit of fun. Martin

    Pens...

Page one of the manual (which I found on line) gives the spec for the lathe - it includes the morse tapers for both headstock and tailstock as 2MT - but check the manual yourself just to make sure I found the right one for your lathe before you spend any money!! Martin

    February challenge - The Results

You could play a turner's version of chinese whispers - copy a pawn and pass your copy on. Be interesting to see how the first and 16th pawns differ after 16 different people had had a go! Martin
