Greetings folks,
Had a bit of a mare today :

Win - my guitar WIP is now a WNC (Work Nearly Complete)

Lose - the action is way too high and I somehow managed to rout a pickup cavity off centre and not quite deep enough.
Lose - I managed to knock my camera off the workbench. Lens not working (Canon EF-s 17-55 f2.8). Flash broken (Canon Speedlite).

But at least it's been a nice warm sunny spring day......Erm.......

Cheers,
Adam

Sorry about all that. No idea on the guitar, but i do know canon ( even tho i'm a Nikon, well mamiya guy now) That 17-55 is a great lens, hope it doesn't cost too much to get repaired. 8)

Sorry to hear the action is too high, all may not be lost, you can use it for bottle neck playing which requires a high action.
Can the pick cavity be re-routed correctly but oversized, then filled in with the same wood you have used for the stripes, then routed again the correct size for the pickup, that way it would look like you had edged the pickup cavities?
As for the lens/flash, can you claim from the house insurance?

A quick update (and thanks for the comments :) ).

Mick - the neck is glued in. So no obvious way of changing the neck angle. The bridge *could* be lowered, but would involve removing the bridge studs (!) and routing out a slightly lower-than-guitar-top pocket to reset it into. I am not going to go down that route. Having said that, I think I may be overeacting a little as it's now been sitting for 24 hours strung up and a quick check with a handy StewMac string-height-O-matic gauge suggests that the low E is 2mm at 12th fret. I shall check across the board, but I think that isnt too bad. On the flip side, there isnt a single whiff of fret buzz anywhere on the neck. The camera? Well, the speedlite works, but the flip-down bit (I forget its' name) that looks like a fresnel has snapped off and I dont know how well it will syncronise... Time will tell.

Carl - Yesterday it worked on manual only, now the AF seems to have switched back on ??? So I imagine a conection has wiggled a little loose somewhere. Hopefully it will continue to work, as the IS function is rather nice. I know it would take a repair shop £100 at least to look at it, so I have no idea what it would cost to repair fully. It isnt one of the L series lenses, so it must be on the border of worthwhile-to-repair. We shall see.

Stew - I think I may actually be ok with the action. It is a little high, and bends are a little awkward on the high-E side, but that might have something to do with a relatively flat radius too. It certainly isnt bottle-neck *just* yet :) As far as the pickup cavities go, it is only the neck, and it is out by 1-2mm at most, so the screws on the pickup are slightly away from underneath the strings. Not enough, I think, to warrant re-routing, especially as it might be awkward with the neck attached too. And yes, I have considered home insurance, and I may speak to them tomorrow, but for now the darned thing seems to be working again, which I find odd.

Anyway, thanks for the comments, and once the WIP-WNC has its' electrickery wired up, I shall post some photo's (hopefully!).

Cheers,
Adam
