While Christmas shopping in London last week, I couldn't help myself but to pop into The Conran Shop in South Kensington. I saw lots of boys toys, and suddenly remembered, I wasn't there to buy for myself :( Drat.
But this caught my eye in the window, sorry the chair is in the way.........................

Lets see who can put a price on this????? Answers on a postcard please 8)

I've seen this already, and it's an utter rip off considering the actual cost of the items that can be seen even with the Walnut case. But maybe there are a couple of Hotleys hidden in the drawers??

Hmmm, I would guess, say, £12,000 ?

Cheers, Paul

WOW Paul, thats a brilliant guess  You're absolutely right. Im in the wrong job  (homer)

But surely anyone who would buy such a thing would know how to use the tools and therefore be able to knock up the cabinet for a tiny percent of the price? So how do they ever sell any? Is it purely to people who would use it as decoration?

I guess it must be because there are people out there who buy expensive planes just to collect them.

It's hard to see the contents being worth more than say £3k, and the cabinet maybe £1.5 k, so even allowing for the retail mark up of maybe a third, it's still massively, massively overpriced unless I'm missing something ?

Can't help but think that someone paying that price would be a tad disappointed to be getting Narex and AI chisels for the sums of money involved, decent, functional bits of kit though they are !

Cheers, Paul

I would rather have the Eams chair, any one fancy working out the price of the tools and subtracting it from the total to find the price of the cabinet?

Pete

I guess it would be bought as a gift rather than by the user. But just in case anyone's reading this and wondering what I'd like, (yea right!) I'd still prefer a second-hand one - like this one, sold at a David Stanley auction in 2004:

With the fancy box being a just-usable bench as well as a cupboard, the £1900 it fetched suddenly looks like good value!
