How is a fan going to filter?

I use a 9" fan to exhaust air from my workshop to the outside, but I also use chip and dust extraction (DC100) around a lathe.

Presumably it will if you feed it 12 DC. How effectively,I don't know.

I have just removed a similar type of fan from my home made filter which uses the Axminster 300mm MTM filters.
The fan came from a vending machine but was 240v & the outlet was quite small thus not very effective.

I have now replaced it with four 240v, 120mm case fans wired to work in pairs.

You could possibly do the same using computer case fans (which are 5v DC IIRC) & a computer power supply (PCU). These are almost classed as junk in these days of laptops, tablets & mobile phones & are often available at your local recycling centre for free or very little money.

A 12v power costs a few pounds, similar to the types which power radios etc. etc. Can I also say the type of fan I had in mind was to cool a car radiator not a heater fan.

Gut feel suggests that you would be wasting your time. You really need to shift the air for these filters to work well and my sense is that the volume of air shifted by the type of fan you are talking about won't be up to the job. OK...you are bound to suck some dust out of the air but not much and pretty localised, I would have thought.
