Hi All, I've a quick question on fixings.

I'm making Kama for my martial arts club

. I've not had any experience using screw or fixings and need to securely attach the handle to the blade. The current example we have in the cupboard have a ferrule around the top and either screws or what look like rivets. I'll be using the ferrule either way, but two questions:

For the type of attachment, do you prefer a rivet or a screw?

What type of screw is this (in the second pic)? it looks like the 'Socket Countersunk Screws A2 Stainless Steel M5' from screwfix; but in the example I've seen I can't see how the screw has been tightened as the hole doesn't extend all the way through the handle. Thoughts?

Kind Regards,
Chris

It might be the blade has threaded holes for the bolt to fix into. Or it may have a threaded insert the other side of the blade?

I don't think I'll be able to have threaded holes put in. My current thinking is I will use a chisel to make a hexagonal hole in the handle so the nut can be tightened. reckon that will work?
