Hi All

I have been given some wide boards from a loft
Approx 100 years old

they are light brown in colour and straight grain

the boards are about 8' long and 12" wide

not sure what I could use them for, but may help if I knew what they was please ?

Mike

a couple of boards are pine

the others are more like oak, but surely no-one would have put oak on a loft floor

I cant post pictures

Looks like Elm to me. No need for an envelope brown paper and string will do.

Maybe, can you post a picture of the whole board, it will give a better idea of the lay out and features of the wood in question.

A pic of a few bits I used for a door for my shed

the rest is still in rough sawn so may not be visible

p.s. please don't judge door it is hand planed and not finished yet :(

Well, the door timber looks very different from the piece shown earlier. That did have the right grain and colour for pine, but the door looks to be too browny-cream for pine, and would tend to support your mate's suggestion of cherry. Or could indeed be chestnut.
Sorry, not much help!
