Wood identification

Can anyone tell what woods these are



And



Both are very heavy (dense) I was thinking oak but I bow to the greater knowledge

The first bit is Oak I'm sure but the second you need to let us see the grain/ colour all I can see is dust!

Yep, Elm, Yew, Iroko possibly Padauk, Afromosia, ditto, American black walnut.

Are you starting a timber yard there>

thanks, I bought a job lot off fleabay, quite a lot was identified but a quite a few were not, Is it ok to keep posting the ones I don,t know?
The more I learn the more I love wood

Are you saying the first big chunk is Ash ?

I reckon this one is ash. It that photo it doesn't look anywhere near dark enough for elm. The open grain is similar to elm but definitely more like ash

Ash, Yew, Padauk, pass on the last three. Could be any number of woods! Maybe easier once they've had the patina turned off

i have a load of lignum vitae or very similar, sinks in water , big round long rods of it.
