New to the forum so not sure if this is in the right place, if it's not then can somebidy move it please.
I am not very good when it comes to different wood types, I buy most of what I use from a local sawmill & it is written on it so each time I use a piece from the board I make sure the name stays on lol
I have some hardwood that came from someones garage & have no clue what it is. All I can say is that it had been in the garage for many years & had originally been a packing crate for a large valve which was probably sent from outside the UK I am assuming it was a valve as that is what the company it was sent to specialise in.

It looks like a tropical hardwood - of which there are hundreds to choose from.
Packing crates and the like use timbers unlikely to be of commercial value in the UK.

the face grain looks pretty much like meranti ( which is a generic name covering the Shorea genus).

Thanks for taking the time to reply, I am just curious to know what it might be, seems to machine very nicely & when I post pictures of projects I have made I like to be able to say what materials I have used rather than just Unknown type of wood lol
