I thought it might be. Feels a little soft though? I’ve just hardly worked with it in the past.
Any hints/tips to working with beech?
Beech is generally a very stable wood with straight even grain and reasonably hard. But all wood is a product of nature and varies to some degree so some pieces may not conform to what you might expect.

I would also guess Beech. One of my favourite hardwoods - planes beautifully to a mirror finish. Not prone to tear out if set up correctly. Quite hard. If you treat the end grain - say hard wax oil - you get a dark finish, which contrasts with the light coloured wood - so great effect when dovetailing.

Regards

Chris

A good tip for anyone asking to identify wood is to post a picture of a polished piece of end grain as its like the finger print of the tree and easier to ID it.

Yep, definitely beech. Hard and used for interior work, very little exterior durability. The Best timber for building work benches from.
