In case anyone is interested in restoring a classic lathe, there is one a few miles from me in sunny North East Scotland. It's either a Jubilee or a Wadkin out of a local school, incredibly solid beast, about 3 feet between centres with an outboard turning rest to allow about 18 inches swing at the back of the headstock (like the Graduate or ML8).
Bad points:- it's 3-phase, has been sitting in a steading and is distinctly rusty, the head and tailstocks are only No 1 MT and it's probably a non-standard thread (1 inch by 10 tpi, at a guess).
Better points:- the guy is asking £195 for it, but could probably be argued down, and he will throw in a generic round-bed Chaiwanese lathe with 4 jaw chuck for free!
If anyone is interested, PM me and I can put them in touch.
