These days my WMP will not play music or demos direct from a web site.

Some instances I get the opportunity to right click and save target as and then WMP will perform, but other occasions this facility is not available.

Obviously I have been saddled with an upgrade that I didnt want.

Can anyone tell me how to get an earlier version of WMP which does not suffer this unwanted and unrequested action?

Or is there a free software program out there that performs the same functions as WMP?

I'm windows XP.

Try going to the "Tools" menu, then "Internet Options."

Next, click on the "Programs" tab, then "Set Programs."

Now click on "Set Your Default Programs."

Choose "Windows Media Player" from the list and click "Set this program as default."

See if that helps.

Ray.

You might want to try VideoLAN VLC, Real Alternative and Quicktime Alternative. The last two contain stripped down decoders and Media Player Classic also one of the best solutions for playing DVDs, real audio files and apple quicktime files without all the bloat and nags that come with real plater and itunes/quicktime.
