So I've spent the last week (half-term here) re-jigging my son's bedroom - last done four years ago when he was eleven; now he's fifteen and twice the size he was and nothing quite fits any more...

Anyway, one of my tasks was to do him a new desk - nothing fancy, just a simple inverted 'L'-shape out of birch ply, doubled up at the edges for a bit of extra load-bearing and joined along the bevel cut with dominos. Yeah, well, guess who didn't tighten the height adjustment properly...

No, those domino slots are definitely not supposed to show through the other side! Easily fixed with another sheet of BP, but so annoyed with myself for such a schoolboy mistake - the lesson being that you shouldn't try and rush things, particularly at the end of a long day...

Turned out OK in the end:-

Just need to sort out those cables!

Cheers, Pete.

Pete,

I know the feeling

Now that you have a spare piece of ply why not make an L shaped trough just under the top fixed to the wall for the cables and adaptors to sit in.

Already done :)

Must admit, although I quite like letting dominos show in say, drawer boxes, it didn't occur to me to let these show in such a prominent place - maybe a hardwood domino would look quite good as a feature; I'll have to try it...

Cheers, Pete

On a job like this (for myself rather than a paying customer) I'd have been tempted to make the worktop a little bit shorter rather than starting again.
