Hi, I am new to woodworking and have a finishing problem. I have just given a small box that I have made from mahogany, a coat of sanding sealer. However, the whole thing has taken on a white bloom. What is it and how can I fix it. Any help appreciated.

Moisture below the sealer? I would try a warm iron on top of clean paper. May do the trick. Best wishes.

Hi two thumbs,
Thanks for the quick reply. I will it a go and then move my wood to drier place.

It was Liberian spirit sanding sealer. I used it on some walnut a couple of weeks ago and that was fine.

Update,
I tried the paper and iron method suggested by two thumbs a

nd it worked like magic, so thanks twothumbs for passing on your knowledge. It was so good that I got my wife to come and watch and she was amazed too. The only downside was that she got me to do couple of shirts while I had the iron out.

Glad you got it sorted, puzzle now is to think about what was different about that instance.
Moist wood, increased humidity, colder surroundings ?

Pleased that it worked for you Samfire.
I learnt the trick from a restorer who said it was always a 'wee earner' when someone came in with their prized table top....... ' I'll try my best, may not get it back exactly as it was, but we should manage something to please you. Will be £300. I'll give you a call in about 10 days'. So Half an hour later and a lot of profit and of course a cleint over the moon, 10 days later.

Best wishes.
