I'm looking for a Trend T4, for my cheapie router table.
Can anyone tell me the difference between a Trend T4, and a Trend T4EK or a T4EKL please?
Were the early T4's variable speed?
I've found a few, but not sure of any preference between them.
TIA, Rodders

The EK is 240V while ELK means its 110V - tbh I'm not sure theres a difference between the T4 to T4EK as the early one has variable speed. Someone could correct me?

They aren't great routers to be honest, I've had about 10 of them over the years bought when on offer but all of them have had switch problems eventually. Cheap and cheerful but certainly not quality.

They would be too light for use in a router table. I bought one just for use on the lathe (the motor can be removed from the base). Incidentally, could anyone tell me if there is a difference between 110 and 240v spring type carbon brushes? A mate of mine gave me his 110v T4 for parts for mine but I think it only needs new brushes.

Technically the brushes on the 110v unit will have to pass more current but the absolute current levels are quite low and so I would expect the brushes to be the same. Look up the part number on the numerous spares listing sites and see if they are the same for each voltage to be sure.

The EK normally refers to the standard kit and storage case. The T4 is normally referred to as a trim router and is really too lightweight for a router table. Try and find a 1/2 router something like an old lightly used Axminster AW127R for around £50.

Cheers
Andy
