On saturday I was having a great productive day cutting mortices in the door styles of some bedroom furniture I'm building for the Household Management until I had a bit of a disastor, the bit in my morticer broke, so now I need a new one.

The morticer is an Axminster White series model similar to this Jet model

Looking on the Axminster website there are two brands; the Axcaliber japanese patern bit
http://www.axminster.co.uk/axcaliber-qu ... s-ax947934

and the Harima variety

So, opinions please, which do i buy?

Cheers
Will

I would check with Axminster, mortice bits and chisels are not necessarily interchangeable, its generally safest to but chisel and bit unless you know the make of the original

Do you know why the bit broke? Just that they normally last an age.

it was purely my fault, i was using the 6mm setup and after about 23 1/2 mortices i got sloppy and pulled down to fast on the lever.
