Evening everyone - I’ve kindly just been given this bench drill by a customer from my day job as he was having a clear out. What is the attachment used for? He wasn’t too sure.

Would anyone know if it’s likely that I’ll be able to track down a “normal” Chuck for this drill so I can use it? I don’t know what I’m looking for really. The only info I have is on the name plate. Any pointers would be much appreciated.

Best

Sam.

Almost certainly a tapping attachment.

Given the type of rotation stop I would say it's an auto reversing one as well.

EDIT: It's not one of the common types it seems, but it is still probably quite valuable.

Looks like an auto reversing tapping head .
Best suited to mass production typ jobs ,
Swap it for a drill Chuck and you've a nice little drill press .

agreed..first job I had fresh from college I had to use one that looked a dead ringer for that to tap threads in 8mm thick flat bar where a motor was going to be bolted on.

Thanks for all the input, I eventually got sorted as it had been on the back burner over Xmas. I spent a wee bit of time researching chucks and I now know about MT shanks and Jacobs tapers. Got this really nice (in my opinion) Jacobs Chuck No 34 that is British made and feels very solid.
Cheers all
