This should be in my AGS10 thread, but it's a question that is like greater exposure for -
I have two AGS saws, one from 1958 and one from the 70s.
I realised last night that the trunnion assemblies are very different.
The older saw seems to have fewer parts (but more grub screw type slack adjustments) whilst the newer saw seems to have alloy parts as well as the iron, and more of them.
Function is the same on both.
Ill need to take some photos to explain possibly, but I'm wondering if anyone knows anything about this.
I will only want to keep one mechanism, so, all things being equal, which to go for.
Sometimes things are revised to improve function, but often they're revised to reduce cost.
For example, the older fence rail has a brass insert for the scale, set into the steel of the rail. The newer saw just has the steel engraved. Same function for both, but that swap would have been to save money, I'm sure.
So, any pros and cons of the two designs?
Thank you .
