Voice activated google

Just found it, little microphone in the google search box.
Will I always have had this or is it new?
Is it google doing it or my PC?
Just strange as I have never noticed it.

It's been there for a while, I have it on my Android phone. Not worth the bother in my opinion.

Isn't it just a magnifying glass to indicate what you click to carry out your search. You see a similar symbol all over the place.
