For the last 10 years I've been helping to restore (and enlarge) a pipe organ in India. During one trip the church had employed a couple of carpenters to renew their large teak doors & I engaged them to make a new back for the organ (see picture). They made their own clamps by two or three long pieces of wood (in the clamping direction) nailed to two pieces just outside the length to be clamped, and using a few pairs of opposing wedges which they hit with mallets to compress the frame. The clamp was essentially all from offcuts. Picture of the clamped assembly attached, and a mediocre sketch to illustrate. (I guess you could add a third piece between the wedges and the panel to distribute the pressure more evenly & in fact they might have done that.) They used this method for all (two dozen pairs of) doors.
