I recently replaced my 3M 6000 series dust mask with a 3M 7500 and whilst I am ok using the 2135 3M P3 filters for woodwork dust I am unsure what filters I should use for the following

1. Spraying car aerosol paint
2. Mixing 2 part car body filler
3. Sanding lead based paint
4. Fibre glassing / sanding cured fireglass

For 1 & 2 I assume I just use organic filters, but I am unsure about number 3 and 4.

Any help welcomed as I am unable to find a site that details which filters should be used for which materials.

Thanks

I think P3 is toxic gases so should be fine for spraying etc.

From wiki:

Class Filter penetration limit (at 95 L/min air flow)
P1 Filters at least 80% of airborne particles
P2 Filters at least 94% of airborne particles
P3 Filters at least 99.95% of airborne particles

Not very helpful thou.

Hi,

I couldn't get Tom's link to work but you might find this free download from HSE useful:

http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/priced/HSG53.pdf

I would try to avoid or at least minimise sanding of lead based paint where possible but appreciate that can be difficult where you don't want to strip back to the base material.

There is more useful stuff on the HSE site and you can search by industry, hazard etc.
