I know what I want but have no idea what it would be called?

I want to have our Sat receiver hidden away in a closed TV cabinet, obviously we wont be able to change channel with the cupboard doors shut, so is there an IR receiver that can sit descretley on the tv stand that I can run down to the box.

Hope that makes sense?

If you do a search on 'remote IR extender' you'll find a variety of offerings - the first on the list states

The Hi-Fi-Ir remote control extender relays signals from any infra-red remote (except B&O) to equipment located behind closed cabinet doors or out of sight. ....

If you haven't got the cabinet already, smoked or frosted glass doors?

That should allow the IR signal to pass straight through.
