Three months to prepare something and still only 6 entrants, looks like the interest is just not there anymore :(

I for one hope that these challenges do continue WM. But must admit that 6 entries with 3 months to prepare is pretty poor.
Cheers
Andy

I was looking forward to this
I had made one..not upto the standard required and showed it on another forum...so could not post here
had all the intention of refining what I had tried
all went downhill and couldn't get back to lathe with 2 weeks before deadline
I really enjoy this and the quality was outstanding this entry

sorry to let down people

Steve

I've only just started learning to turn and was hoping to get an entry in for this one but just a bit too soon. Hopefully I should have something for the next though I expect it to be fairly basic by comparison.

I have no excuse kept putting it off saying I had plenty of time, Then started to make some pens next thing it was all over. I will still make a box as I have a blank ready for it will try and take photo's of the turning process.

That's what often happens when all the enjoyment gets sucked out of something.
You're not far wrong there.

I always wanted to see the competition continue, but was unable to enter last year due to a series of unfortunate events. I'm currently crocked with a rotator cuff injury I sustained in London in November. Being on the verge of being an old duffer, this is taking a long time to heal. Probably still be abused for not trying hard enough, but hey ho.

Many of us turn for fun/relaxation/stress relief/therapy......... whatever, rather than as a job or business. We all have lives outside our hobby, which take priority over having fun a lot of the time. Rude and insensitive comments made on this forum previously may have sounded the death knell for people willing to use their valuable leisure time for the competition.

I think the competition is good for noobs like myself, in terms of stretching ones ability. Who cares if we don't win? This is one occasion where the taking part is most definitely more important.

I have spent months preparing for this project, selecting and setting aside the wood last summer as it was originally inspired by a competition last spring. But the wood (oak) which has been acclimatising in the house since last summer split when it was glued together, This was entirely unexpected. It took some time to prepare the wood for gluing as I don't have a planer. I will eventually finish it when I find something suitable to make the bottom half as it is promised to SWMBO.

To console myself I have been using the Holbrook and wonder how I can mount the B******D Botche in it to turn the entire thing into swarf. Unles someone has an idea how to make use of a chainsaw without using a chain in it.

The forum itself has been pretty quiet recently, few new posts and most of those have been mainly by regulars, just a few items being shown. Maybe it's the time of year.

I am very interested in the comp but at the Moment I just do not have the ability to stand and use my Lathe for any length of time
I did have my blank roughed out Last month but Work and ill health got in the way of finishing it in time LOL
Fingers crossed for the next one

Most of you know my family health circumstances and its kept me well away from the workshop since pretty much the summer when all the trouble started. I did submit an entry but it was made in Feb as a valentine gift because I just knew I wouldn't get much time. Now that things are looking up I certainly hope to be continuing to take part. Little one went to school without crutches for the first time in a year today :)
