TRITON Collet jammed

I just got a Triton router and have managed to jam the collet. I put the 1/2 inch collet on and tightened it but as I didnt put a bit into the collet while doing so the collet is so tight that a bit wont go into it. I unscrewed the nut covering the collet and they both separated. I tried to get the collet out with a little force as I dont want to shatter it.

Its ok, I just got it out with vicegrips, very carefully. Phew!!!

A mistake thats worth taking on board, never never tighten a collet without the correct size shaft inserted. You are very fortunate not to have broken the collet. Thanks for being open about this mistake, you will probably save someone having to buy a new collet.
