I have a Trend T9 which is working fine, but there seem to be a lot of blue sparks coming from the top where the carbon brushes are. I've taken them out and they are still 1/2" long so by no means worn out. I've looked them up and the pic of new ones doesn't seem much longer than mine.

Prob is I have a job for it this wednesday and sods law says it will die half way through. Am I missing anything obvious other than take it somewhere for a looking at? which I don't have time to do.

Hi

Have a look at the commutator when you have the brushes removed - check for nicks / scratches etc which can be dressed with fine wet and dry. Also check for loose segments.

Thanks Mick.

I use it for cutting kitchen worktops more than anything. I was using a worktop cutter (12.7mm straight) earlier when it started sparking (brand new cutter 10mm increments in chipboard worktop). I changed to a round over bit and it doesn't do it at all. Obviously related to the load.
