TOTAL NOVICE router advice needed please

Hi guys,
first off you will have to excuse my ignorance here im a total newbie at this....

i have some fire doors that need intumescent strips fitting, and i need a router that will help me do this, ( cut 10mm channels in the doors ) be nice if it can do the hinges as well, once i get to grips with it ill need to put some nice edges on 18mm mdf ( im aware of the health hazards with this and suitable PPE will be worn) so nothing fancy but simple to operate and reasonably versatile....

i was looking at the makita RT0700 CX/** OR THE DEWALT EQUIVELANT but dont know if id be better off with a plunge router or what ... looking for some good advice please..

For what you want to do as an inexperienced user, the lighter the better, plunge base almost mandatory until you know what your doing as putting it down when its still running can be interesting without.

Search TREND jigs.
They make all sorts for 1st and 2nd fix applications. You can even buy the dedicated cutters from them.

A jig for it would have to be full height/length of the door so a bit impractical, but I have no doubt that someone has made one for sale, just use the side guide fence, or two pins sticking down from the base plate on either side of the door, one front one back and skew the router on the door.

Why do you need a jig? Set the height where you want the strip and the bearing runs along the edge of the door, job done!
