Tormek stone dressing question

Hi

I'm thinking of buying a T3 but have read that I need to dress the stone before use. I've got a Diamond Dressing Block from Axminster

Can I use this or do I have to purchase the tormektool at an extra £50 - bumping the whole lot up to £300 ish

Hi , you can use any dresser , but you must make sure you present the stone flat on the wheel

The Tormek one fits on the Jig bar and you wind it across with a thumb screw

or at lease my one does :wink:

The benefit of the tormek one is that it ensures the edge of the wheel is exactly parallel to the toolrest, so that when you use any of the other jigs on the toolrest they sharpen your tools evenly and at the right angle.

More important for things like chisels and plane blades than for turning gouges, kitchen knives etc.

Thanks for the suggestions - am I correct in thinking that I have to dress the stone before use or can I use the T3 straight out of the box and purchase the Tormek truing jig at a later stage after I've recovered from the shock of waving bye bye to 250 squids
