Hi,
Bit of a noob here - I want to make place mats about 2" deep from logs 12"-18" wide. I've been using a 16" japanese backsaw but it's murder on the arms and takes an age to get through just one. Also very difficult to saw perfectly straight the whole way through. However since the teeth are so small the finish is good for minimal sanding. I'd like to speed the process up if possible. What do you think would be the best tool selection, hand and/or power, to get straight slices of log cross sections?
Thanks in advance

Cutting them is the easy part, as above.

How are you going to prevent them from splitting afterwards?

Bandsaw, slice the logs into 6" pieces and then glue them back to original size. careful edge finishing for gluing and a router sled over the finished article will do the job.

Many thanks! I'm going to try a 3-foot 1-man crosscut saw and diy a frame to keep the blade straight.

Try a 7 tpi sandvik and stop being a woos
