This weeks mystery object?

Hi All,
Todays oddball find is probably up the street of the engineering types who hang out here:

It appears to be some sort of go/nogo guage is my best guess but have not a clue really.
Made by Coventry Guage & Tool Co and got 156 x 60 tpi and B.S.I CLOSE stamped on it, also the fine jaws have 0.0002 stamped

Matrix Churchill ( http://www.exportcontrols.org/matrixchurchill.html) were a company that supplied Saddam Hussein with specialist engineering components/machinery that were supposedly destined for the manufacture of a supergun, designed by a ballistics expert who was subsequently murdered in mysterious circumstances. The gun was supposed to be capable of firing shells (think WMD payloads) a very long way - low earth orbit. All in all a very murky affair!

Simple really, I am a sucker for things that confound me! Also I have generally found that stuff in its original box will usually sell somewhere.
In this case I felt that the expenditure of 20p might produce an acceptable return and if it didn't I may live through it :wink:

Does look however , as though this one has the team stumped although I did laugh at Alf's 'straw clutcher'!

It's an ajustable thread gauge. The size is stated on it as: 0.156 pitch and 60 threads to the inch.
Or so the mech eng hubby of a colleague tells me
