Has anyone got any suggestions about how to texture wood please. I don't (can't) want to buy a special tool at the moment and have tried a dental pick which was very shallow and not really that effective. If anyone has done this or made their own (remember I have no engineering background and can't even solder effectively) I'd appreciate advice etc

I've recently textured some pieces using brass wire brushes in my drill. Unlike Russell the lathe was locked during the process. I brushed with the grain and the final result (on elm) looks like the sand blasting I've seen photos of.
I'll post some photos when I get round to it, but I'm very pleased with the results.

I saw a tip somewhere that you could make a texturing tool using a star wheel dresser designed for grinding wheels but I've never tried it.

edit - here's a linkto the item - should appear at the top of page 5
