Hi,
Iv recently had my annual tax refund as I'm self employed Iv had an accountant deal with the return this year as I didn't have time to do it online, he came back with a figure of just over £200 a once I had payed him. Last year I got almost £3k.

My mate who I work with everyday same jobs/ times and pay got £2600 for his return as I have had mine done is there anyway I can redo them?
Thanks

What is the accountant doing differently? If you have been doing it yourself have you been doing it correctly? I am also self employed, never get a refund, just a bill.

Sounds like the accountant has deducted his fees from the refund and sent you the net amount ?

How much have they charged you, does that account for the difference to what you expected ?

I guess all of your work must be CIS so the tax is being duducted at source, even so I would be surprised if that amounted to much overpayment of tax.

I would be surprised if the accountant was wrong. Its probably best to ask him to go through it with you. Did your mate use an accountant or did he submut it himself

He used a different accountant to me, Iv got all the recipts and I own the van most of the tools etc, and his fees where just over £200 to do my accounts

Definitely raise this with your accountant as it doesn't sound right . If your have tax deducted at source , then you should be getting approx 20% refund on your first 10,600 plus any other tax deductable benefits .
So there should at least be an extra zero on the end of yours.
