I recently read on an American forum of someone using their tablesaw as a sander. They suggested grinding the teeth off an old blade and sticking the abrasive to the face of it.

It seemed reasonable, although if any great side thrust was applied it may be detrimental to the bearing, but for light work it may be feasible. Is it worth risking damage to the saw?

Has anyone in this forum tried it or have any other insights?

I suppose there is no real reason why not.
I'd be tempted to cut a disc out of mdf rather than use an old saw blade as the backer. Add a customised near zero clearance insert too.

One thing to bear in mind that most low end saws will not have continuously rated motors so be careful about over heating and ear protection.

Bigger saws with induction motors should not suffer from these problems.
