Hi all,

I need some help with my table saw. I have the ferm 250 saw and was looking to MOD the top.
Can I make a new top from a board? Eg; chipboard or ply?
I want to place the new top (to make it longer and wider) onto the ally top of the saw.

Would this cause a problem?

I need info about the riving knife and the way the original top is made to take away waste.
Room is an issue in my shop/garage, so could I make a removable one?

It's not the most expensive or top of the range model, but it seems to be ok for a newbie like me.

Any advice?

Thanks.

Anything put on top of the original will cause you to lose cutting depth - better if you can make an outfeed table at the same height as your existing one.Preferably out of something like melamine-faced board,so you have a low-friction surface.
And if space is an issue (which it is to all of us.. ),then how about a cupboard on castors to double as an outfeed table when needed?
