I have acquired an old Teak chest, dated 1850, which was in a skip, used as a tool box, and covered in multiple layers of paint, I have stripped the paint, and it should look good once restored. The problem is anything put inside stinks of Teak, which is a strong tobacco like smell, how can I finish the inside to remove the pong !

Try Teak oil, there's nowt wrong with the smell of tobacco. I don't smoke either.

clean it with slightly soapy water on the inside, I would at least try that and see if it removes any of the smell.
