As I was in the neighbourhood I called in to Stiles and Bates yesterday with a view to stocking up on turning blanks.

They're the friendliest and most helpful bunch I've had the pleasure to meet in a shopping environment. Nothing was too much trouble, the blanks are great and I got a discount without asking!

I would've bought some flat stuff too if I hadn't been in the little car.

If you're within visiting distance I would strongly recommend a visit.

No connection to them just very impressed.

I've only dealt with them by phone, but I agree that they've always seemed very pleasant and good to deal with.

Your mention of them being particularly excellent in person is reassuring, as both my wife and I are seriously considering taking a week's holiday down there in wintertime to take their wood turning course. :) Yes, the wife is thinking about taking up my hobby - the sanctity of the man-cave is threatened, but on the other hand, it'll be a lot easier to keep the workshop tidy! Also, if it's something we both do, she can't tell me off for spending money on tools and finishes "for us both"...

Looking forward to my course even more now. What's the premises like?

Nic.

I didn't see the workshop, only the shop , the wood store and the customer's toilet which was very clean.

The premises are on a farm but the approach by car is unchallenging and there is easy parking space, attended by a friendly old Labrador.

I met the owners and their son, all were very helpful and friendly. The attitude overall is one of putting the customer's needs and comfort first.

I went to buy two or three blanks and ended up spending £184 less discount.
