Startrite Planer Thicknesser are they any good, going to get rid of my 10” HM1 scheppach planer thicknesser and replace it with something a bit better. I have very little space left for anything bigger and i hate anything new from china.

How about used from china then?

I had the Startrite SD300 which had the cast iron fence. I had nothing but problems, that were never resolved. I might have been unlucky and aphid a bad machine which happens, however I had to take the retailer through the small claims court to end up with a satisfactory solution. The biggest issue I had was I could not get the infeed and outfeed table to both align with the cutter block and with each other and if this was achieved remain aligned. In my opinion I felt that the lift up mechanism / arrangement for the beds to remain aligned was not sufficiently robust to achieve the tolerances required.

I bought a second hand Sedgwick which does not have lifting tables and is simply brilliant, and in my opinion extremely good VFM.

I traded up from an ElektraBeckum to a SD310 ( the Robland badged version). Build quality is far superior and the quality of the finish is much better. Never really used the planer set-up on the EB as it was too fiddly to get square. With the SD310 it's much easier and no snipe.

The Startrite SD310 is a different machine to the SD300, and I have heard good reports from those who have one. My concern and poor experience was with was the SD 300

Not so sure, if it has been used that means it has worked??? and is not entirely untested. Atm with my new bandsaw, the maintenance time far exceeds the use time :(

waiting on bits now........ It has managed to run for about 2 hours in a month. rest of the time is in bits or waiting parts....
