Hi Folks

I'm looking for some advice on a pop-up-type spray booth. I'm not after anything too fancy and I saw this on Amazon which size-wise is about right. Does anyone have any other recommendations that might be slightly better quality but not super expensive?

edit : This could be the answer, but still interested in opinions

Thanks in advance

The job of a spray booth is to extract and clean the air not to contain it. Without extraction, the millions of airborne paint or lacquer particles are what will dry in the air and fall as dust, so I don't see the point of the two 'tents' you've linked to. A lot depends upon what you're spraying - large panels or small items, you might get away with the latter but probably still be better off in the open and hope for the best against dust and flies.

I built my own extraction cabinet which turns the room its in into a booth. You can buy them but I didn`t want to spend the money so built my own.

I made mine using a large squirrel cage fan that cost a couple of hundred from ebay a load of MDF and some square pattern chicken wire to hold the paint stop in place. You need to use one layer of fine filter behind a layer of fibreglass paint stop (the green stuff visible in the pictures). Both come on large rolls 1200mm wide.

It works well and when you turn it on it sucks the door in on its seals by its suction, clears the overspray pretty fast.

I second the comments regarding the need for extraction.

Here is an old post that describes my own spray booth build and where I got the original inspiration (this was a good starting point).

The booth is still in use - I have made a few little modifications along the way, principally:
- I added some secondary filters behind the concertina stuff to reduce the amount of very fine residual dust that is emitted;
- I added a large slinky plastic tunnel to the fan exhaust so that I can better direct the exhaust out of a window or at least into a room that won’t suffer with a tiny bit of residual dust;
- I extended the front canopy made of overflow pipe and polythene to better enclose large jobs.

I found my old post by searching “spray booth” on this forum - there is a great deal of good information and discussion if you take a look.

Cheers
